Coronado Beaches Coronado Beach is one of the longest and least crowded beaches in Southern California. The main beach of Coronado stretches one and a half miles between the boundaries of
North Island and
Naval Amphibious Base with the
Hotel Del Coronado in the middle. Every day is different on the beach with changing tides and surf bringing new surprises for the beachcomber. You can walk the beach for exercise, to collect shells (sand dollars are especially abundant during certain times of the year and always a treasure to find!), watch surfers and sea birds (pelicans are especially graceful as they skim the top of breaking waves in a line), and on a lucky day, dolphins can be seen slowly swimming just outside the surf zone. During our winter low tides, the old gambling ship wreck at the south end of the Coronado Shores is exposed for careful exploration. Coronado's beaches and the ocean beyond are a big part of our Coronado lifestyle and history.
