Brown Pelicans no longer on the Endangered List

After 40 years of being on the Federal Governments Endangered Species list, the Brown Pelican is officially back! Back in the 1960′s, the brown pelican population dropped to dangerously low levels due to the residual effects of the pesticide, DDT. Once DDT was banned, the population slowly started to climb up, but it took 40 years for a complete recovery. It is so beautiful to see a line of pelicans sailing in single file across the top of a breaking wave. Wouldn’t it be a tragedy if that was lost forever?
