Thank you to all who participated in the inaugural Coronado Home Harvest free homegrown fruit, vegetable and flower exchange. Besides those who planned ahead, there were folks who drove by, saw what was going on and went home to bring back little bits from their gardens to exchange. Some just wanted to be involved, and didn’t even ask for a bag in return.
We received homegrown Greek oregano, rosemary, thyme, basil, bay leaves, lemon thyme, mint, french thyme, sage, marjoram, arugula, kale, chard, Myers lemons, lemons, oranges, green beans, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, beets, red cabbage, avocados, kumquats, figs, peaches, nectarines, tangerines, lettuce. We also got rose and lavender sachets, strawberry plants, succulents, chocolate banana cookies, and heavenly homemade almond roca. Everyone got a wonderful assortment of goodies when they returned to pick up their bags.
Thanks to the Library which provided the locale, and to volunteers who checked people in, sorted produce and filled bags. Thanks to all of you for your beautiful donations and for being on time. The day could not have gone more smoothly.
All who participated agreed that it was a wonderful feeling to have shared in the start of this new Coronado tradition. Watching the day unfold brought thoughts of “community” at its best: neighbors visiting, sharing, helping and caring. Anyone who came by, whether to participate, observe or just to visit, could not help but be touched by the experience.
We hope to see everyone on July 17, 2010 for the next exchange. 8-10 drop off, 12-1pm pick up in front of the Wynn Room at the library. See www.coronadohomeharvest.org for more information about the exchange. Never Waste Another Zucchini!
