Coronado Visitor Center Seeking New Volunteers and Docents

May 6, 2010

Do you enjoy telling friends and family about Coronado and what not to miss while visiting here? Do you appreciate receiving inside information from locals whenever you travel? How about meeting new people from other places? If so, you may have just the skills we’re looking for as Coronado Visitor Center volunteer or tour docent!

Over 60,000 tourists a year stop into the Center to find out what to do in our town and a friendly volunteer is there to answer their questions. Most people come to the Visitor Center needing directions, maps, schedules or help planning things to do. The Center also sells discounted tickets to attractions in the area.

Some volunteers become tour docents sharing their love and knowledge of Coronado’s rich and colorful history. Trained docents lead popular 75-minute walking tours of the Hotel del Coronado and the historic downtown area, describing life here in an earlier time and some of our more famous residents. Tours for groups ranging in size from five to 15 are given every day of the week except Mondays and Thursdays.

Visitor Center volunteers just work four hours each shift but are asked to commit to two shifts per month. Besides the rewards of serving as a Coronado ambassador, our volunteers periodically receive invitations to special events and tickets to San Diego area attractions.

A new training session is planned in the next few weeks in preparation for the busy summer season. Please contact Becky Emerson or Mary Pack at the Visitor Center to learn more or to sign up for one of the training sessions, (619) 437-8788 or e-mail vcmgr@coronadovisitorcenter.com
