The nuclear powered aircraft carrier, USS George Washington, has received official orders and departs for Japan on Thursday. The Nimitz class carrier, one of the biggest warships in the world, has been berthed at North Island for the last couple of months due to a fire on board that injured 37 sailors and required extensive repairs, estimated at $70 million dollars. USS George Washington replaces the USS Kitty Hawk as the forward deployed carrier in Yokosuka, Japan.
